Description of the research topic:

Results from RHIC and LHC have shown, that the color degrees of freedom in high energy heavy ion physics are indeed partly deconfined, but they behave collectively and create a strongly interacting perfect fluid. It is less clear what happens at lower energies, in the events observed in the RHIC Beam Energy Scan programme. The goal of this topic is to measure distributions of particle creation at various energies, to help finding the answer to this question.
