Description of the research topic:

Enviromental DNA (eDNA) can be naked DNA, fragments of cells, whole cells as of fungi, spores, or pollen, minute pieces of a leaf, animal and human skin flakes, hairs etc. It is widely utilized in recent biological research to characterize the environment of water, air or dry surface samples in detail. The research objective is to extend eDNA and non-human DNA sampling and analysis methods in forensic identification. Project aims to develope methods for eDNA sampling and to establish metagenomic DNA profiles. The candidate should: (i) determine the eukaryotic eDNA profile from a number of sources and samples, (ii) comparing eDNA profiles by locality and by individuals, (iii) time span of eDNA from different sources, (iv) study of mixed biological samples for their eDNA. The genetic identification of species by next generation DNA profile is both a biological and statistical problem, that requests validation of likelihood ratio methods applying Bayesian approach.
