Description of the research topic:
The banking sector transformed in the last two decades; transactions and services develop increasingly complex in line with digital requirements (Banking 4.0 and Digital banking 4.0) and are closely intertwined with the insurance and capital markets. The micro- and macroprudential operations involve customers, banks, and the financial system. The analysis of individual transactions and products (financing: credit, loans leasing, factoring, savings, investments, asset management, trust, securitization, ESG and green factors) is also valid; green lending or the financing of fintech undertakings and start-ups are among the newer trends. A peculiar phenomenon is the increasing proportion of specialized credit institutions (export-import, development, agriculture, municipalities). Robots and chatbots, the artificial intelligence have revolutionized the banking and financial services (BFS) industry (AI-based automated repetitive tasks, personalized customer experience, improved risk management).
The government and the supervision play an essential role at a national, EU, and international level. The topic can be further extended to consumer protection, ethical banking, artificial intelligence, and green finance. Among the new challenges, we can find payments: anywhere, anytime and anyhow, cryptocurrencies, tokens, and the Central Bank Digital Currencies.
