Description of the research topic:
Renewables, especially photovoltaic energy investments and use became very popular in the last few years. However, there are policy factors that can influence this process. In order to achieve renewable goals governments started to support green electricity which caused huge boom in installed capacity. This increase causes negative effects, overuse of subsidies and the cut-back of supporting systems as states could not maintain this high level of support. In addition to the above, another important factor is the degree of environmental awareness of stakeholders (including local authorities). Indeed, renewable energy is increasingly at the crossroads of several interests (e.g. electricity generation vs. agriculture). Understanding the processes, interests, governance mechanisms and attitudes is an increasingly important SSH objective alongside STEM.
