Description of the research topic:
Statistical learning (SL), a form of learning through observation sensitive to frequency distributions and transitional probabilities which extracts patterns and regularities from environmental stimuli, plays an important role in several areas of language acquisition (in phonologial, lexical and grammatical development as well). On of aour aims is to explore to domain-generality of mechanisms of SL and test whether it is equally efficient with linguistic and non-linguistic, acoustic and visual and sequential and nonsequential stimuli. We will also examine the factors influencing the effectiveness of learning in different domains, and track developmental changes.
