Description of the research topic:
The research plans to carry out new investigations in three areas that have not yet been carried out in the two colour variants of the Hungarian sheep (the Great Plains Racka or Racka of Hortobágy). One is the processing of the entire domestic pedigree with modern pedigree analysis. This is complemented by the identification of paternal lines and maternal lineages (families). Knowledge of the latter is important for sampling. Sampling is the so-called "founder sampling" method, in the framework of which biological samples are taken from living representatives of lines and families. The molecular genetic part of the research sheds light on the phylogenetic origin of the Hungarian sheep by exploring both the paternal and maternal background. The results of the research provide new, confirming points for the further successful maintenance of the Hungarian sheep.
