Description of the research topic:
Climate models that predict the future are fed by data from multidisciplinary paleoenvironmental research. By identifying the organic and inorganic remains of lakes, bogs, buried soils and archaeological sediments, we can learn about the environmental changes of the past through geochemical and isotopic analysis. One of the earliest considerable signs of climate change is the shift in vegetation zones, which are directly related to the conditions for the cultivation of food plants. Knowing this, we can determine critical environmental threshold values for vegetation, their resilience, and the speed of their responses. Our studies contribute to the planning of natural resource use (water resources, forestry, agricultural cultivation, landscape use).
