Description of the research topic:

Today malignant tumors are among the leading causes of death in developed countries and these are mainly considered as civilizational disease, which occurred sporadically from antiquity to the 19th century. Several cases of bone tumors have been reported in bioarcheological materials, but the majority of the paleooncological studies only deals with case reports without paleoepidemiological reconstruction of these conditions.
The research focuses on the analysis of primary and secondary malignant bone tumors in skeletal remains of large historical populations. The main aim of this paleooncological study is to analyse the type and the frequency of primary and metastatic bone tumors using wide spectrum of available paleopathological methods (macromorphological-, paleoradiological-, paleohistological- and paleoproteomic analyses).
