Description of the research topic:

It is known that the catalytic activity of isolated active sites in heterogeneous multicomponent catalysts is many times higher than that of conjugated sites. However, to ensure the proper isolation of these centres, active surfaces with homogeneously distributed active components must be synthesized in such a way that the accessibility of the active centres remains unchanged. This can be easily accomplished by replacing individual atoms one by one with guest atoms/ions. This concept is at the heart of the studies aimed at developing single atom catalysts. The main objective of this project is to synthesize and then exfoliate 2D structures (g-C3N4, h-BN, Sillén-type structures, etc.) with defect sites of controllable size and continuously to modify their surfaces by inserting isomorphously metal/metal ion specimens. Their catalytic performances are tested in various organic transformations that are of great importance for the biomass valorisation (isomerization, transfer hydrogenation, hydrodeoxygenation, etc.).
