Description of the research topic:

Nowadays, one of the most difficult challenges in the field of thermocatalysis is to introduce efficient synthetic chemical conversions based on biomass in such a way that they fully meet the requirements of the circular economy. To overcome this challenge, catalytic cascade reactions are currently being designed and developed to selectively perform the synthetic chemical conversion of biomass to produce platform molecules, fuels or fine chemical intermediates even in one-pot processes. For this purpose, however, novel multifunctional catalysts need to be developed. The main objective of this project is to develop the all-solid counterparts of the well-known, highly efficient, bifunctional F(rustrated )L(ewis)P(air) catalysts and simultaneously investigate their catalytic capabilities, which will allow us to address the issues related to the robustness of homogeneous FLPs. Catalytic conversions, especially for hydrodeoxygenation/coupling tandem reactions of various biomass derivatives (e.g. phenols, sugars, cellulose, alcohols) as well as partially purified biomass will be included in the test reactions.
