Description of the research topic:
COVID-19, a novel coronavirus strain appeared in Hubei region, China in November 2019. Initial epidemiological data suggested, the infection primarily affect and represent a fatal risk to the elderly (>65 years), those with compromised circulatory- and/or respiratory system and the immunocompromised population. However, significant amount of cases show that these early risk factors are not sufficient in predicting the severity of the disease cause by COVID-19. This suggests that there might be genetic risk factors involved in the progression of the disease.
Our main objective is to investigate variants, which can potentially define the severity of the disease progression, thus may have diagnostic importance in the treatment scheme once the infection has been identified.
