Nowadays settlement marketing can be traced back to the fact that local governments must meet the new expectations of target groups, keep pace with the expanding opportunities offered by Europe, and follow the development directions dictated by globalization and the
European Union. On the one hand, settlements must preserve their own image, which can be a tourist attraction, on the other hand, the competitiveness of the given settlement must be increased through developments and appropriate marketing strategic support, it must
attractive to potential investors and visitors as well.
The proper application of the place marketing and modern marketing communication tool system represents an opportunity to break out for local governments. In order to reach this goal, we have to take into consideration the specific characteristics of the settlement and use
appropriate and well-founded sources of information and analytical methods.
By applying the appropriate marketing strategy and marketing communication elements, the settlement and the city are able to adapt to the emerging challenges, as well as to develop and maintain the standard of service required by the individual target segments - residents, investors, tourists. Due to the characteristics of the topic, it is possible to analyse the marketing activities of certain cities and settlements and to compare them, on a domestic and international level. The theme aims to explore breakout points for towns and cities.
