Description of the research topic:

Municipalities and municipally-owned enterprises are significant actors in the provision of public services in Hungary. The local government system has undergone significant changes since 2010, with the former decentralised system being replaced by a highly regulated, more centralised model. The municipal economy (which includes municipalities and the companies they own) has been adversely affected by the pandemic and the energy crisis. Hence, an important objective of this theme is to examine the resilience and resilience of the centralised municipal model to crisis. The topic can be investigated using macro- and micro-level analytical methodologies.
