Description of the research topic:

The key issue of building fuzzy models based on a sparse fuzzy rule base is the existence of efficient interpolative fuzzy reasoning methods. The goal of the research is twofold. On one hand the development of Fuzzy Rule Interpolation (FRI) methods suitable for efficient knowledge representation, on the other is the creation of the corresponding model optimization methods. The sparse fuzzy rule base fits well the requirements of human interpretable knowledge representation. With the help of interpolative fuzzy reasoning, human expert defined models can directly applied to system embedded operative models like behavior models of man-system interaction. Having suitable model optimization methods and observed data of the acting environment, the originally heuristic model can be parameter optimized to fit better the actual situation, and validate the performance of the expert heuristic.
