Description of the research topic:

As a consequence of the unfolding technological wonders and lifestyle influences of civilization, people's health has been deteriorating. With every discovery, humanity has aimed to make life easier and more comfortable (household appliances, mechanized work processes). The sedentary and inactive lifestyle of today poses serious health problems that need to be addressed.

Increasingly, people are realizing that not only do earthly possessions come with a price, but one of the most valuable and costly assets to maintain and acquire is "health." Therefore, with the spread of health-conscious behavior, health has become the main driving force of our era, even forming a meta-industry.

Beyond health, the question of quality of life has also come to the forefront in the second half of the 20th century in public discourse and scientific inquiry, as wellness, as a human need, has become increasingly important. An individual feels good when there is balance and harmony between them and their environment. However, the lack of these can affect both physical and mental health. Therefore, creating this balance is crucial, as it contributes most to disease prevention, i.e., health protection. At the center of health protection should be the emphasis on quality of life, which is most effectively achieved through health consciousness.

Today, we observe the emergence and spread of the fitness and wellness trend, focusing on improving health, well-being, physical fitness, and developing motor skills. Understanding fitness and wellness trends and consumer habits can assist fitness-wellness service providers (SMEs) in product development, marketing strategy, branding, increasing market competitiveness, and increasing realized business results.

Within the research framework, the concept of fitness and wellness, its areas, market environment, demand and supply trends in leisure economics, elements of competitiveness, and quality parameters of services will be presented. Analysis will include fitness and wellness providers such as fitness products, fitness and recreational centers, day spas, services of SMEs operating in sports and leisure economics, analyzing their demand-supply factors, product development, competitiveness, and marketing communication.

Students will become familiar with the most characteristic research in the field of fitness and wellness, analyzing and evaluating statistical data. By calculating trend numbers and forecasting trends from periodic data, they will learn to predict demand and supply. Through questionnaire surveys, they will learn about the possibilities of measuring service quality parameters and guest satisfaction. Using SPSS software, they will learn basic statistical calculation methods and correlation analysis methods, as well as how to evaluate and manage results.
