Description of the research topic:

A sedentary lifestyle poses a risk factor for several chronic diseases, including cardiovascular diseases, certain types of cancer, certain types of diabetes, and osteoporosis, as these conditions are more likely to develop due to an inactive lifestyle (Kruk 2007; Colditz et al., 1995; Yu et al., 2003).

It is a well-established and emphasized fact by numerous researchers that minimal physical activity initiated at any stage of life has health-improving effects. The protective effects of physical activity and recreational activities (e.g., preventive effects on chronic diseases, cardiovascular and musculoskeletal disorders, diabetes, and certain types of tumors) are supported by numerous domestic and international studies. Through its direct anxiolytic and mood-enhancing effects, physical activity contributes to maintaining mental health, thereby improving quality of life. In the context of the topic, we will specifically examine the effects of a physically active lifestyle on hypertension.

By physically active lifestyle, we mean planned and objectively measurable exercise therapy methods. Through studies conducted on both healthy individuals and those already diagnosed with diseases, prehypertensive/elevated normal blood pressure clients can be identified. In their case, there is a significant risk of developing hypertension, but with individualized therapeutic methods (exercise therapy, nutritional therapy, education, etc.), the development of hypertension can be prevented. Improvement can also be achieved in hypertensive patients through the same methods. All of this can contribute to improving health status, reducing sick leave costs, medication costs, and reducing employee turnover.

In processing the topic, we will examine and monitor the healing role of fitness through various exercise programs.

- How and to what extent do different forms of exercise influence individuals' current health status?
- How does altering fitness components affect the course of diseases?

Doctoral students choosing this research topic will gain in-depth knowledge of chronic diseases that can be conclusively linked to sedentary lifestyles. In addition to basic health science knowledge, they will become familiar with the most important aspects of exercise theory, enabling them to develop rehabilitation exercise programs.
