Description of the research topic:
The study aims to investigate the job satisfaction of midwives, their workplace conditions, their values related to work, the impact of work on their health, and the coherence between these factors. Midwives work in the specialized field of healthcare where they have relatively high autonomy. They provide care not only for ill patients but also for healthy pregnant women, mothers in labor, and postpartum women. During their work, they may experience more positive and successful outcomes than professionals in other healthcare fields. However, they are equally affected by changes in healthcare, wage tensions, professional policy issues, workforce shortages, and the development of chronic illnesses. The issue of human resources, aging, and staff shortages also affects midwives both nationally and internationally. The WHO's 2020 strategic plan emphasizes the need to support midwives in achieving optimal health at all ages and strengthen their roles in health promotion. Such a comprehensive study focusing on midwives has not been conducted in Hungary previously, which justifies the timeliness and necessity of our research.
