Description of the research topic:
In healthcare settings, a professional can facilitate the necessary and relevant exchange of information by employing a deliberate interview strategy, thereby preparing for an appropriate diagnosis. The aim of the PhD topic is the applied sociolinguistic examination of communication discourse between healthcare professionals and patients. It focuses on interactional research that analyzes linguistic forms of interpersonal relationships (such as forms of address, information solicitation, provision, advice, persuasion, establishment of certain behaviors as norms, verbal, paraverbal, and non-verbal manifestations of empathy) that determine effective professional communication. The choice of topic allows for the examination of clinical institutionalized interactions, as well as the analysis of simulated healthcare interactional situations, primarily focusing on conversations between doctors and patients, and healthcare professionals and patients.
