Description of the research topic:
The main causes of morbidity and mortality in myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs) are arterial and venous complications, the development of myelofibrosis, and transformation into acute leukemia. The development of thrombosis can be attributed to the complex interaction of clinical and disease-related factors. Abnormalities in blood cells derived from the clonal proliferation of hematopoietic stem cells characterize the transition of these cells from a resting state to a procoagulant phenotype. Patients are classified as "high-risk" or "low-risk" based on age and previous thrombosis. Presumably, the increased number and activation state of blood cells and endothelial cells form the basis of the hypercoagulable state in MPN patients, which is indicated by elevated levels of coagulation markers.
