Description of the research topic:

Introduction: In the initial phase of chronic heart failure, diastolic dysfunction, left ventricular
hypertrophy and fibrosis occur with a preserved ejection fraction, then with the destruction of
myocardial tissue and the progression of fibrosis, the compensatory mechanisms are depleted and a
reduced ejection fraction is observed. Causes of chronic heart failure include hypertension, chronic renal
failure (CHF), diabetes mellitus (DM), and metabolic syndrome. In addition, the incidence of chronic
cardiotoxicity (eg, cardiotoxicity and chronic heart failure induced by radiotherapy and / or
chemotherapy) is increasing in cancer patients with long-term survival. Our aim is to investigate the
pathomechanism of different forms of heart failure and to discover new therapeutic targets. The
mechanisms of the development of heart failure are not fully understood, particularly in the case of
comorbidities. Therefore, experimental study of the molecular mechanisms leading to heart failure,
identification of early predictors, and the research and development of new diagnostic markers as well
as prevention and / or treatment of heart failure using new agents or drugs already on the market in other
indications are important and clinically relevant areas.
