Description of the research topic:

The purpose of digital transformation is to deliver unique, integrated business capabilities, inspired by the capabilities of powerful, readily accessible technologies, in ways that are responsive to constantly changing market conditions (Sebastian et al., 2017:198). Powerful, readily accessible technologies include social media, mobility (ubiquitous, wearable, AR/VR), analytics (big/smart data, predictive analytics, data-driven management), cloud, IoT (sensors, M2M, connectivity), robotics (RPA, chatbot), cognitive solutions (AI, ML), and other trends (e-mobility, additive manufacturing, blockchain). In addition, “mainstream” technologies like ERP, CRM, BPM/workflow, or document management & collaboration still offers significant digitalization potential. My research focuses on strategic and management challenges, as well as on organizational change and competitiveness, related to digital transformation. Specific research topic is the digitalization of business models and business processes. Business models of e.g. sharing economy or crowdsourcing, new ventures in fin-, insur-, prop- etc. -tech market, transformation of incumbent companies are on the research radar. The latter includes IT-enabled optimization or reengineering of internal and inter-organizational processes (around-the-clock availability, intuitive and self-service interfaces, real-time and personalized treatment, zero errors etc.).
