Description of the research topic:
This research focuses on works of American literature that explicitly tackle subjects connected to Jewish religion, traditions, heritage, and identity. We focus on the ways Jewish traditions, legends, and religious texts intertwine with modern and postmodern American poetics. Furthermore, we examine how these literary texts represent the “old country”, how different languages (Yiddish, Hebrew, and Central Eastern European languages) appear in English texts, and how Jewish identity is represented in these narratives.
