Description of the research topic:

Epic poetry is one of the most effective and characteristic genres in Italian Quattrocento and Cinquecento, which in the poems of Pulci, Boiardo, Ariosto and Tasso, despite the formal similarities, takes shapes that are different from the antique models. The epic tradition, especially in the Cinquecento as a consequence of Boccaccio's popularity, takes also another direction: the short story will be a decisive literary genre for centuries.
