Description of the research topic:

Dissertation proposals are welcome that are related to the following topics: Hungarian and Soviet or other Eastern European socialist-realist literary works of art from a comparative point of view; children’s and youth literature in the Rákosi era; the history of socialist-realist criticism, key literary debates in the period, practices, processes and institutions of canonization (e.g. the changing role of the classics in post-1945 literary history); the concept of socialist realism and its changes over time; interart research of soc-realism (literature, theatre, fine arts, architecture, film); literary and cultural institutions (e.g. schools, societies, journals, the cultural press, libraries); history of book publishing after WWII; practices and institutions of censorship; representation of gender and the various social classes; the anthropology of the „new man”.
