Description of the research topic:

Justification of topic choice:
Research of environmental safety and its military context is an actual problem in these days. The different military activities and the release of hazardous substances directly and indirectly affects the soil, influencing its natural functions. Preventing soil contamination and eliminating possible damage is a serious environmental safety challenge for professionals dealing with damage mitigation and possible remediation / recultivation. In order to accomplish the tasks at a high level, it is essential to examine the topic at a scientific level, and to take account of the results, to develop mitigation process that also meet modern environmental safety aspects. Another important task is to develop the theoretical and practical knowledge of soil protection professionals and to analyse the experience of eliminated soil pollution.
Objectives:
• Analysis of challenges affecting soil protection activities,
• Investigation of the effects of soil contamination,
• Investigation of soil contamination in the area of disused or abandoned military objects,
• Review of remediation / recultivation practice,
• Development of prevention options,
• Research on soil conservation procedures, development of environmentally friendly processes,
• Examining the opportunities of cooperation between the Hungarian Army and other organizations
Planned or expected new scientific results:
1. More effective prevention of soil contamination,
2. Effective mitigation processes from an environmental safety point of view,
3. Expanding the recultivation / remediation possibilities of disused or abandoned military objects,
4. Development of environmentally conscious soil remediation processes and methods aimed at avoiding further environmental damage,
5. Educational methods that promote the effective application of new processes
