Description of the research topic:

Nowadays, there is a growing focus on sustainability and green values, both in everyday life and in the lives of economic players. In most functional areas, businesses are already showing interest in green practices, and green human resource management (GHRM) is no exception. It is a very new topic, which has only been seriously addressed by academia and business for a few years. While sustainability is being addressed in all areas of human resource management, from recruitment to performance evaluation, in order to get more organisations interested in adopting GHRM practices, more information needs to be provided to managers and a green attitude needs to be developed among employees. This research aims to map the GHRM practices of the companies surveyed, and to assess the impact of the practices and the environmentally conscious behaviour of employees. The aim of the doctoral research is to explore how the companies surveyed contribute to making GHRM practices and organisations more sustainable, and to identify the trends that emerge from these practices. A further aim of the research is to examine the changing labour market and the transformation of jobs as a result of the rise of Green HRM, and to create an objective assessment method/tool to determine the level of GHRM maturity of an organisation.
It is a very new topic, which has only been seriously addressed by academia and industry for a few years. Mapping of GHRM practices that contribute to the sustainability of organisations; and the trends that emerge from these practices, have not yet been presented and evaluated at a system-wide level. Furthermore, this research topic has the outstanding added value of adding to existing research findings by collecting good practices to provide inspiration and examples for other organisations to strengthen organisational systemic sustainability. The objective assessment method/tool to be developed in the research to determine the maturity level of GHRM could also be an innovative outcome of the research.
