Description of the research topic:

Platforms are increasingly important players in the global digital economy, particularly in the cultural industries. How are certain branches of the cultural industries (such as journalism, the music industry or the audiovisual market) being transformed in the process of platformization? How does the process of platformization affect the notions of gatekeeping, center-periphery relations and inequalities, or the content-consumer and content-producer relationship? The research, on the one hand, may interrogate such issues, by analyzing content production strategies, sharing and distribution patterns, consumption habits and attitudes related to the most significant platforms in this regard (such as Netflix, Spotify, YouTube or Facebook). On the other hand, the research project may focus on questions related to the socio-historical and theoretical context of the relationship between platforms and the cultural industries.
