Possible topics include: theories of political moralism vs. realism (e.g., Geuss, Gray, Williams); the problem of ‘dirty hands’, political choices of means in competitive, democratic and authoritarian regimes (e.g., Walzer); the ethics of political representation, virtues of representatives (e.g., Beerbohm, Dovi, Mansbridge); the nature of political responsibility (Thompson); civic and voters’ virtues and obligations (e.g., Brennan, Lever); compromises and ideals in politics (e.g., Margalit, Gaus, Talisse); the reform/evolutionary and radical-revolutionary theories of social, political and regime-change in Central Eastern Europe (e.g., Arató, Havel, Kis, Lukács, Michnik); theories of civil and uncivil disobedience, resistance and just war.
