Description of the research topic:

We aim to examine based on observational and prospective longitudinal studies the currently available diagnostic possibilities in systemic sclerosis, scleroderma-like diseases and idiopathic inflammatory myopathies. Differentiating between scleroderma-like diseases and systemic sclerosis is somethimes challenging for the clinician. Early secure diagnosis in these diseases is very important as the treatment differs significantly, furthermore a delay in treatment may lead to irreversible damage.
We also aim to test the disease activity indices developed by our research group in systemic sclerosis patients on immunosupressive therapies compared to those with no need of immunosupressive treatment.
Another objective is to test the prognostic factors that influence the therapeutic response in idiopathic inflammatory myositis patients.
