Description of the research topic:
Aging associated cerebrovascular changes are related to functional loss like cognitive decline or gait alterations. In this topic we analyse the possible underlying causes, the mechanisms which alters neuronal function during aging. This research includes preclinical laboratory based research on rodents and clinical trials as well to translate the proposed preclinical finding to human studies as well. The objective is to understand the molecular and cellular pathways which alters cerebrovascular regulatory mechanisms such as autoregulation and neurovascular coupling and identify possible factors which could reverse or lighten the age related cerebrovascular changes and consequent functional loss.
