Description of the research topic:

The relationship between stress and depression is more and more in the focus of current research. Special attention is paid to the early life stress that affects the developing nervous system and results in structural and functional brain alterations affecting the emotional and affective regulation in adults. Several studies have proved that early life stress makes the individual more vulnerable to stressful life situations later in adulthood. Both clinical experiences and clinical research support that psychosocial stress is one of the most typical triggering factors of major depressive disorder. The research topic aims the magnetic resonance brain imaging research of patients with major depressive disorder focusing on structural and functional brain alterations.
