Description of the research topic:
after the break up of the Soviet Union, millions of people having Russian as their mother tongue became citizens of a successor state. Depending on the linguistic competencies of the doctorant, the investigation should focus on describing the linguistic situation in a given settelement of the post-Soviet area (Moldova, Ukraine, Belarus, Azerbaijan etc.) or on giving a picture of the variety of Russian spoken there. Besides such a monography based on fieldwork, the doctorant could also envisage a comparison between two parallel situations in two different countries or settlements. The post-Soviet area gives also an opportunity to investigate the phenomena of semilinguism, pidjinization or creolization. Besides a personally done fieldwork, a work on printed or electronic press, as well as on internet sources can also help in doing such a research.
