The European Union provides an excellent context for examining multilingualism both at the level of institutions and the EU as a whole: the legal basis of institutional multilingualism, official and working languages of the EU, implications on language (status and corpus) planning in the Member States, multilingualism versus plurilingualism, multilingualism in other international organisations, dealing with linguistic diversity at schools
