Description of the research topic:

Is the categorial nature of a syntactic primitive ‘set’ in the pre-syntactic lexicon, or is it determined in syntax? If categorial status is a lexical property, how can flexibility of category membership be accounted for? If lexical primitives are acategorial, how exactly is their categorial status determined? The structure of nominalisations, the constitution of so-called ‘extended projections’, and the composition of lexical and functional structures are central to investigations in this realm.
