Description of the research topic:
"High entropy alloys (HEAs) are in the focus of materials science since many HEA compositions exhibit outstanding mechanical and physical properties. These alloys contain 4-6 constituents with similar fractions; therefore, HEAs correspond to the unexplored middle part of the phase diagrams.
In the proposed doctoral research project, HEA films processed by different techniques (e.g., sputtering) will be studied. The influence of the processing conditions and the chemical composition on the microstructure of HEA layers will be investigated. In addition, the mechanical behavior of these materials will be studied by hardness testing and micropillar compression. Annealing experiments will also be performed on the films in order to reveal the thermal stability of the microstructure and the phase composition. In this research project, an emphasis will be placed on the study of the annealing-induced hardening effect in HEA coatings."
