Description of the research topic:
The mating system and parental care of shorebirds (sandpipers, plovers, jacana) have recently induced exciting research: while in some species males and females are monogamous and both parents take care of the offspring, other shorebirds are characterized by uniparental care, which is often combined with polygamy. The PhD student will investigate the evolution of mating behavior and parental care using field studies, phylogenetic comparative analyzes and demographic methods. The PhD gives you the opportunity to participate in research and conservation work of leading international research group and to carry out fieldwork abroad.
