Description of the research topic:

Microorganisms are present in our daily lives and we interact with them. This interaction can be detrimental to a higher organism - think here, for example, of diseases caused by various pathogenic microorganisms. However, this interaction can also be beneficial to both parties, creating a sort of symbiotic relationship between the higher organism and the microbe or microbe community. Microbiota represent a set of microbes that have a persistent relationship with different organisms, forming an ecosystem. Microbiota consisting bacteria, viruses and fungi are involved in protecting the boundaries of integrity, producing important substances for the body (e.g. vitamins) and preventing the host organism against foreign, sometimes harmful microorganisms.
Our goal is to assess these adverse effects primarily on the intestinal microbial community and to isolate and characterize bacteria that are able to restore the disturbed balance.
