Description of the research topic:
The economy, and, in particular, the financial sector, being the first in chronological order, is undergoing a process of full-scale comprehensive digitalisation. As a result, classical banking and bank management know-how and approaches are rapidly becoming obsolete.
To enable the banking sector to support and ensure sustainable economic growth through lending, the banking sector must first transform itself. The first step is the market entry of new types of innovative global payment service providers, the emergence of virtual money and new types of IT risks and fraud, mass regulation according to classical principles, the full globalisation of financial markets and the responses given by the banking sector to these.
For the financial sector to maintain its stability and predictability, and ensure the financing of the economy, it must undergo a fundamental overhaul. Soon, the entire sector will have to be run along new principles and methods of bank management and bank operation. The current task is therefore to plan and successfully implement the theoretical preparation and practical implementation of new processes and methods.
As a first step, and as part of this preparation, the use cases, risks and operation of the financial application of various digital solutions must be identified. This can be facilitated by the adoption of best-practice methods and the preparation of impact studies based on these.
Based on the above, areas to be explored include regulatory and banking supervision in the digital age, and the potential for banking adaptations of new digital solutions. The next area to be looked at includes the potential applications of AI in classical banking areas such as payments, risk management, investments, customer service and client advice. Furthermore, the impact of all these on the development of banking management and banking operations in the new era.
