Description of the research topic:
There is a significant change in contemporary sculpture compared to previous human
representations in the 20th century. For many artists who are now at the first rank, the relationship
between figure and space is emphasised – most not least in the work of Sir Antony Gormley – while
other defining creators deal with the potential of material and machining techniques, a trend that
can be traced, among others, in the sculpture of Willy Verginer, Aron Demetz.
Through the subjective and experimental application of age-appropriate materials machining
techniques and methods, new forms of machining have emerged, which have opened different
possibilities of representation for sculptors. The research explores these possibilities of figurative
sculpture in relation to individual creative attitudes.
The aim of the research is to implement figurative plastics and installations that examine the
relationship between figure and space, and where the human form becomes a suitable carrier of a
specific conceptual approach, a content moment.
I am therefore looking forward primarily to the application of an aspirant who, in search of relevant
results:
(a) focuses on the human figure in sculpture, has a current message with and by the human figure
and deals with the subject of the research by reimagining its role and exploiting its reinterpreted
potential,
(b) use his work to reflect today's economic, social, moral and cultural phenomena, examine their
symptoms and use the human figure to express what is to be said.
