Description of the research topic:
The cereal leaf beetle, Oulema spp. (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae), is an important pest of nearly all cereal crops. Whereas we have a hypothesis about Oulema spp. life history, that is mostly documented for the crop growing season, and there are question marks about number of generations, overwintering and alternative host plants during the off-season period. Such evidence based knowledge would enable better pest control and applications of nature-based solutions. The doctoral research would be a complex project to broaden our knowledge about this important pest. It would encompass field studies to census and collect different stages of the beetles, research into its chemical communications, molecular gut content analysis to uncover the range of alternative host plants and natural enemies. Research task can be organized incrementally, with the possibility to have multiple and multi-level publication and dissemination of the results.
