Abbreviation of location of studies: ATE

Description of the research topic:

The topic is the examination of viruses that have been suspected to be the etiological agent of transmissible viral proventriculitis (TVP) in chickens, with particular regard to the recently described birnavirus, chicken proventricular necrosis virus (CPNV).
This recently recognized birnavirus of chickens, referred to as chicken proventricular necrosis virus (CPNV) has been associated with the cause of TVP. This chickens birnavirus is a new member of the family Birnaviridae, deeply divergent from other birnaviruses, especially the Avibirnavirus of infectious bursal disease.
Transmissible viral proventriculitis (TVP) is a viral disease of young broiler chickens characterized by inflammation and enlargement of the proventriculus. The disease mainly causes production losses among broiler chickens aged 1-8 weeks, but also occurs in broiler breeding and commercial laying hen flocks (up to 9-20 weeks of age).
Since the first description of TVP in 1978, when it was diagnosed in the Netherlands, cases have been identified and described in, among others, the USA, Australia, China, South Korea, Spain, France, the UK, and Poland. The incidence of the disease in Hungary is also known, but the CPNV birnavirus has not yet been described here.
