Description of the research topic:
The prevalence of respiratory diseases is rapidly increasing as a result of extensive industrialisation. Chronic respiratory diseases are major causes of mortality, posing an increasing challenge for health-care providers. Further research on chronic respiratory diseases is crucial to better understand the underlying pathologies and, ultimately, for more efficient prevention of the diseases as well as improved treatment.
The aim of the present research programme is to carry out basic research activities focusing on the respiratory system. The translation of their results can contribute to the more appropriate understanding of the mechanisms behind the diseases of the respiratory system and to allow for a more targeted therapeutic approach.
