Description of the research topic:

Nanotechnology has gained intense attention in the recent years due to its wide applications in several areas like medicine, medical drugs, catalysis, energy and materials. A length scale of between 1-100 nanometers is possessed by the nanomaterials. Materials display excellent characteristics at this size, affecting biological, chemical, and physical behavior.
The use of nanotechnology in agriculture can have an impact on production outcomes, safety and sustainability.
The production of sufficient quantities and quality of food raw materials and sustainable crop production are based on well-structured, biologically active and diverse soils. However, without sufficient organic matter replenishment, the soil structure will degrade and the soil will lose fertility and water holding capacity, thereby increasing the area's vulnerability to drought. In arid, semi-arid areas, the best source of organic matter replenishment to mitigate climate damage to the soil is organic manure, which can be animal manure or crop residues. Manure produced by intensive livestock production systems should be managed to protect water, air and crop quality. When manure is not properly handled, stored or used, it can pollute rivers, soil ecosystems and underground drinking water and affect all living organisms nearby.
Our group investigates the implication of manufacturing and tailoring of nanomaterials to environmental/agricultural ecosystems as well as the development of nanodevices and nanostructured materials for environmental remediation, energy production, and sustainable agriculture.
The aim of the research is to explore new ways of managing organic fertilisers and reducing environmental damage through the use of nanotechnology.
