Effect of Sustainable Aviation Fuel on the Combustion and Performance of the Gas Turbine Engines

THESIS TOPIC PROPOSAL

Institute: Budapest University of Technology and Economics
transportation and vehicle engineering
Kálmán Kandó Doctoral School of Transportation and Vehicle Engineering

Thesis supervisor: Károly Tamás Beneda
Location of studies (in Hungarian): Department of Aeronautics and Naval Architecture
Abbreviation of location of studies: DANA

Description of the research topic:

This research is to study the possibility of using Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) on the currently operated engines that have been running on Fossil Jet Fuel (FJF) during their life cycle span, investigate the effects of SAF on the engine’s performance and environmentally aspects like emissions and finally to remark the change in the operational parameters of Turbojet Engines when using the FJF and compare it with the parameters resulted when using the SAF.
This will be done by both Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) for simulating the effect of different fuel grades and experimentally on a real gas turbine test bench with an advanced measurement system.

Required language skills: English
Further requirements:
MSc in Aerospace, Aeronautics, Vehicle Engineering or Mechanical

Number of students who can be accepted: 1

Deadline for application: 2023-01-31
