Description of the research topic:
The dissertations devoted to this topic will explore various aspects of a/some chosen female writer(s) from 19th- and 20-century English culture, preferably, but not exclusively Jane Austen, Mary Shelley, Charlotte Brontë, Emily Brontë, George Eliot, Elizabeth Gaskell, Charlotte Perkins Gilman, Katherine Mansfield, Virginia Woolf, Gertrude Stein, Jean Rhys, Mary McCarthy, Kaffka Margit, Sylvia Plath, A.S. Byatt, Margaret Drabble, Janet Frame, Janice Galloway. Special topics may include female modernists’ fiction, the female Künstlerroman and women’s autobiography as a genre. The dissertations written on this topic will approach their subject from the perspective of feminist literary theory.
