Description of the research topic:

The diagnostic measurements on transformers gain more and more importance, as the early detection of failures becomes highly important. Partial discharge measurements can detect local defects. Measuring them in the UHF range allows their localization, but the properties of the propagating path need to be investigated.
Early detection of the degradation of polymeric insulators is of utmost importance, as various degradation processes cannot be detected by visual inspection. Measurement of the emitted signals of discharges might be a solution to the problem, however, noise levels during on-site measurements are very high. Accordingly, the test setup, its properties, and the postprocessing of the results are all open questions.
