Description of the research topic:
Multidrug resistance is a major obstacle to cancer therapy. It can evolve following repeated exposure to various chemotherapy drugs (acquired resistance), however, cancer cells can also be inherently irresponsive to cytotoxic drugs. An extensive scientific effort is currently focused on the development of such agents that are capable of attenuating this resistance or reversing it. This Ph.D. project aims to design and test various nanoparticles and synthetic drug candidates specifically targeting the multidrug-resistant phenotype of cancer cells.
