Description of the research topic:
Small, cysteine-rich, plant defensin-like antifungal proteins expressed by ascomycetes constitute a feasible basis for the development of novel antifungal molecules. Therefore, deep understanding of structure-activity relationships of such proteins are of high importance. Our investigations include isolation of wild-type proteins, their homologous and heterologous expression, in vitro testing for antifungal activity and the investigation of three dimensional molecular structure utilizing experimental (ECD, NMR) and in silico methods.
Required language skills: English Further requirements: Basic microbiology background, strong backround and interest in molecular and structural biology, laboratory work experience, user-level informatics skills.
