Description of the research topic:
The aggregation of amyloid and other misfolded proteins is responsible for the onset of neurodegenerative disorders currently presenting serious challenges for public health. Representatives of the syndecan family of transmembrane proteoglycans provide optimal conditions for the aggregation of misfolded proteins, thereby contributing to the initiation of neurodegenerative processes in the central nervous system. Thus, exploring the role of syndecans in pathological protein aggregation may provide new therapeutic and diagnostic targets to fight against currently incurable neurodegenerative diseases.
