Description of the research topic:
Scheduling and operation planning are interdisciplinary tasks. They require complex mathematical background, efficient IT solutions and deep understanding of the target field. While there are general purpose tools available for optimization, each field have their own specific criteria and problem features.
The task of the applicant is to identify scheduling or other operation planning related optimization problems in the wood industry, formalize these problems, and develop solution approaches for them. These approaches must be implemented and put to empirical test after data collection.
Prerequisites:
• Solid programming background
• Fluent English
